The duties of the Department for Social Welfare and Health Services in the State Provincial Office of Western Finland are
to guide and supervise social and health care services
to provide social and health services for municipalities and the federations of municipalities
to manage health centre and hospital activities
to provide licenses for private suppliers of social and health services and to monitor these services
to handle the complaints brought forward by social and health care service clients and provide them with legal protection
to determine causes of death and perform forensic autopsies
to handle state grants for foundation and development projects within the sphere of social welfare and health services
to provide liquor licences for serving and retailing, as well as to supervise the availability of alcohol
to guide and supervise health protection, as well as food and product safety
to guide and monitor veterinary services and animal protection
to track and evaluate the basic social and health services
to carry out proper emergency planning for the provincial social and health care units.
