The State Provincial Office of Southern Finland, steered by seven ministries, functions as the regional authority of the State and is an expert in several domains. Our task is to promote the welfare of the province's inhabitants and to support the local authorities in the provision and development of basic services.

We share in the work of ensuring the safety and security of the inhabitants, making sure that society functions in all circumstances, whether normal or exceptional. In all sectors of our activity we promote the citizens' basic legal rights and their legal protection.

We steer the activity of the local Registry Offices and the State Local Offices, and support the provision of public services through service points run jointly by several sectors of administration. Our tasks also include various monitoring duties and the granting of a range of licences.

The State Provincial Office of Southern Finland employs about 380 persons. Our service units are located in the cities of Hämeenlinna, Helsinki and Kouvola.
