Jukka Savolainen appointed as the new Head of Mission of EUPOL Afghanistan
Jukka Savolainen, Deputy Head of Border and Coast Guard Division of the Finnish Border Guard, Ministry of the Interior, was appointed on 11 June as the new Head of the EU Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL Afghanistan). The appointment, which was made in Brussels, will commence on 15 July 2010. Mr Savolainen is the first Finn to run a civilian crisis management mission.

Finnish civilian crisis management experts
There are approximately 170 Finnish civilian crisis management experts involved in some 20 missions around the world. Out of these, 70 experts work in the Ministry of the Interior’s sector. Most of them are police officers. The next biggest group of all experts are those of the judiciary.
