Integration
The Ministry of the Interior is responsible for the integration of immigrants. The aim of integration is to ensure that immigrants can participate in Finnish society in the same way as anybody else living in the country. Learning the Finnish or Swedish language is one of the key objectives of integration. The aim for working-age immigrants is to find employment, thus allowing the whole of society to benefit from their skills and qualifications. Employment and Economic Development Offices and municipal officials dealing with immigration matters help people moving to Finland get started in their new country. Implementation of integration measures In order to implement integration measures, the Ministry of the Interior guides the work of the immigration units of the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, which are responsible for immigration and integration matters at regional level. The Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment guide the local Employment and Economic Development Offices in providing immigrants who have registered as jobseekers with labour market services that promote and support integration. The individual municipalities have responsibility for developing, planning and monitoring the integration of immigrants within their areas. Municipalities organise measures and services promoting and supporting the integration of immigrants.
