Even though there are few restrictions concerning the flying of the Finnish flag, the national symbol should always be displayed with proper respect. Moreover, a number of rules and regulations should be observed.
In Finland, the Ministry of the Interior is responsible for matters covering the country's flag and arms.
Provisions on the Finnish flag and its use are contained in the act 380/78 (as amended by the act 588/95) and the decree 383/78 (as amended by the decree 187/96), while the Government decision 827/93 of 16 September 1993 gives the exact shades of the flag and the national arms depicted on the flag. There is also a separate act on the arms of Finland (381/1978), passed on 26 May 1978.
