European Community Project on Training for Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management - Training Courses 2006

European Union develops its crisis management capabilities in the European Community Project on Training for Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management. The project trains experts for different areas of EU civilian crisis management. Priority areas are rule of law, civilian administration, police, civil protection, monitoring and support to the European Union Special Representative's office. Finland emphasizes the importance of human rights, gender and equal opportunity, and the rights and role of women, children and vulnerable in post-conflict and developing communities.

Finland participates the European Community Project on Training for Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management in accordance with the active role and responsibility in global peace, security and development. The project is implemented by the European Group on Training (EGT), and as a member of the EGT Finland both organizes training courses and supports Finnish participation to the courses in other Member States.

Training for Civilian Crisis Management

Ministry of the Interior is the national focal point in the European Group on Training and the training project. EGT will organize 5 core (basic) courses of 2 weeks time, and 8 specialization courses of 1 week time in 2006:

Candidates applying for courses shall fulfil the following requirements: age preferably 25 - 60, expertise and working experience in respective area of professional competence related to crisis management, first level university degree or equivalent professional experience, very good command of English, valid driving licence, computer literacy, good physical and mental health, ability to work under pressure and in difficult conditions including conflict societies, motivation, willingness and availability to serve in foreign mission, team skills, interpersonal and multicultural skills.

The precondition for the attendance of a Specialization course is having participated in a previous or one of the core courses, similar international basic mission preparation course, or to have a thorough personal experience of the work in an international field mission.

Finland will have only one place in each course, and therefore all applicants are reminded of the criteria and commitment needed. Course language is English. Training is a future prerequisite for the recruitment to crisis management operations. Ministry of the Interior may organize language, health and other quality tests to the candidates for the missions.

  • 12 December 2005 at 16.00 hours for the courses no. 1 - 5
  • 12 January 2006 at 16.00 hours for the courses no. 6 - 9
  • 12 April 2006 at 16.00 hours for the courses no. 10 - 13
