Biometric passport

Biometrics means automated methods of establishing a personīs identity. Identity can be established, for example, by means of face recognition, fingerprints and a scan of the iris of the eye.

The National Police Boardsīs biometrics project coordinates the use of biometrics in the public sector.

Biometric passports contain a microchip storing a passport holderīs personal data, passport data and facial image.

The aim of biometric passports is to make travelling safer and smoother. They will also improve international security and contribute to fighting terrorism and illegal immigration. However, the aim is not to raise the general level of control but rather to focus control more carefully than before.
