Public order and security

Maintenance of public order and security refers to all police activities that are aimed at creating and maintaining a safe and secure living and operating environment for all members of society, combating and preventing infringements of people’s rights and public disturbances, stopping disturbances that do occur and investigating possible infringements as they arise. The police also protect the safety and security of individual people as well as safety and security in private places.
The duty of the police is to uphold the rule of law and maintain public order and security. The provisions on the general duties and powers of the police are laid down in the Police Act.
