Immigration and immigration policy

The Government guides immigration policy and administration through Government Programme objectives and Government guidelines. The Ministry of the Interior is responsible for drafting legislation on immigration. It also guides and develops the immigration administration, and is responsible for performance guidance for the Finnish Immigration Service.

The Ministry represents Finland in immigration matters both within the European Union and in the international arena. It also coordinates immigration-related work between different administrative branches.
