Monitoring of compliance with the Non-Discrimination Act Listen

Monitoring of compliance with the Non-Discrimination Act

Questions of discrimination based on ethnicity are the responsibility of the Ombudsman for Minorities and the National Discrimination Tribunal, which are both attached to the Ministry of the Interior.

The Ombudsman for Minorities monitors and makes efforts to improve the status and rights of ethnic minorities. In addition, the Ombudsman takes steps in cooperation with other authorities to ensure that people are treated equally, regardless of their ethnic origin.

The National Discrimination Tribunal is an independent judicial body which examines cases of discrimination based on ethnicity.

Compliance with the Non-Discrimination Act in employment relationship issues is monitored by labour protection authorities, irrespective of the grounds for discrimination.

Promotion of equality

The Ministry of the Interior deals with equality and discrimination issues in cross-sectoral cooperation with other central government bodies, local and regional authorities, NGOs and social partners, and works closely with organisations, communities and advisory boards representing different groups.

The Advisory Board for Ethnic Relations (Etno) is a broad-based advisory body in issues relating to refugees, migrants, racism and ethnic relations.
