Key projects of the Ministry of the Interior during the Government’s term of office

The Programme of Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen’s Government includes a large number of development projects which are under the responsibility of the Ministry of the Interior and the offices and agencies within its mandate. The actual key projects are

• drafting the third Internal Security Programme
• stepping up the fight against organised crime
• preparing the Future of Migration 2020 Strategy
• stepping up the fight against the shadow economy and economic crime
• preparing for the impact of visa-free travel between the EU and Russia on the Ministry and its offices and agencies

The legislative projects included in the Government Programme are also contained in the Ministry’s own legislative agenda.

In order to implement the Government Programme, the Ministry and its offices and agencies are preparing a great number of reports and proposals for measures in 2011–12. They cover such issues as implementing emergency response centre reform, stepping up the fight against serious crime, preparing rescue services for crises and major accidents as well as combating racism, intolerance and xenophobia.

The Ministry has also reformed its own strategy in accordance with the objectives of the Government Programme.
